When not treated properly, scar tissue in the muscles can cause a number of problems–including limited range of mobility. Fortunately, Opus Medical Center in San Pedro is proud to offer the Graston Technique to effectively treat soft tissue conditions, including built-up scar tissue. Our medical professionals have undergone specialized training on this therapy method to benefit our patients and

quickly alleviate their pain.

With the Graston technique, the practitioner uses a number of concave and convex instruments made of stainless steel in a specific manner to break down the scar tissue. This method essentially introduces “microtrauma” to the area in order to promote circulation and cellular activity, which, in turn, creates a an environment conducive to healing. After a number of treatments, the scar tissue is broken down, restoring normal mobility and relieving pain.

The Graston technique can be used to complement a number of therapies, including physical rehabilitation and chiropractic care. Graston therapy is typically administered twice per week for a four to five week period, with most patients experiencing positive results after the third or fourth treatment. This form of therapy is not disruptive, and you will be able to perform your regular activities immediately after a session.
